Orihuela's historic centre occupies a narrow strip between the River Segura and Monte San Miguel, whose long seminary building and castle ruins rise above the roofs.
Within that compact ground, the cathedral, Santo Domingo and the home of Miguel Hernández reveal the city's religious, academic and literary life. The huerta and Palmeral connect those streets to the wider Vega Baja.
